Killington & Sunday River race to open for skiing!

Snowboarding

Sunday River announced it would be the first to open for skiing on Monday Oct 19, then just days later, Killington in Vermont pushed their opening day to Sunday Oct 18 to be first. This ski rivalry must be stressy for the ski pr peeps, but its good news for skiers as the lifts spin before Halloween.

In an aggressive media move:

Killington's communications/PR manager Michael Joseph said,"I don't know if you have heard, but Sunday River in Maine announced they're going to open for skiing and riding next Monday. They think they're going to be first people in the U.S. to open for skiing and riding, and they're wrong because Killington is going to open on Sunday. We're going to be the first resort open in North America thanks to our awesome snowmakers. Ski season is here starting Sunday."

Last season, Killington and Sunday River opened the same day, Nov 3, 2014, though Killington's opening day is for pass holders only – same deal this year.

Sunday River will offer free skiing Halloween for anyone in costume.

Meanwhile, Loveland and Arapahoe Basin in Colorado are firing up snowmaking guns, opening first for skiing out west on Thursday Oct 28, 2015.
